GUWAHATI: The Assam government has issued its new Standard operating procedure (SOP) for conducting offline classes from September 06. However, classes till standard 11 will remain closed.

According to the notification physical classes of Higher Secondary final year, degree 6th semester and Post Graduate 4th semester has been allowed from the scheduled date in Assam.

However, the students whose classes will start from September 06 can stay in hostel and should have been vaccinated with two doses.

It has also been mentioned in the SOP that students with one dose of vaccine will be able to attend classes.

The Assam government has allowed students above 18 years of age to attend physical classes.

The SOP has also cited that only 30 students can be sit in one single class room and if necessary the respective institutions can increase the number of sections.

The education department has also instructed the teachers of the lower classes to continue with the online classes.

Earlier, the state government has decided to pay a one-time grant of Rs 1 lakh to the next of kin of every person who died of the Covid-19 in the state.

However, the families drawing salary or pension from the government will not get this grant. Talking to the media, IPR Minister Pijush Hazarika said, "We have two schemes for the next of kin of those who died of Covid-19. We have fix-deposited Rs 7.50 lakh for 25 years in the account of each Covid orphan. The beneficiary can withdraw the amount with interest after 25 years. We have also paid a one-time grant of Rs 2.50 lakh to each Covid-19 widow. Now, the Cabinet decided to pay a one-time grant of Rs 1 lakh to the next of kin of each people died of Covid-19. The government will pay the amount on October 2, 2021. Till Tuesday, 5,660 people died of the Covid-19 in the state.
