Guwahati: On Wednesday, the Education Minister of Assam Ranoj Pegu announced his plans for the upgradation of all the High Schools in Assam to Higher Secondary by 2020.
This announcement was made by the Education Minister in his speech during a special program organised by the education department in the Training Centre of the Public Works Department.
In the event, the teachers who had received National and State awards were felicitated by Ranoj Pegu for their excellent service.
The Education Minister said, "The awards have been given to some selected teachers for their excellent service. The committee that was set up in Teachers' Day shall remain till 2022 and it will evaluate the performances of all the teachers."
Ranoj Pegu also expressed that he expects full co-operation from the teachers in the training sessions which will be provided to the teachers to enhance their skills.
In an effort to popularise science in the academic field, special schemes will be introduced by the state. The Education Minister also said that science teachers will be trained with the help of advanced technology.
"Education will be restructured under education policy," he added.
For the amalgamation of schools, data have been collected from several districts and the state will soon proceed with the process of merging schools. This also includes the abolition of about 3000 schools.
Lastly, he informed that the teachers must apply online from 2022 for state awards.
