GUWAHATI: In a shocking incident in Assam's Baksa district, a man allegedly murdered an elderly couple suspecting them of practicing witchcraft against his family.

The incident took place on Monday 11 April at the Doomni Tea Estate which is in the Baksa district of Assam.

The deceased elderly couple has been identified as Sukra Kasua and his wife Balamadina Tirkey, residents of the Baksa district.

As informed by the police, the accused identified as Suraj Ekka went into the residence of Sukra Kasua and his wife on Monday afternoon. According to reports he forcefully entered their house accusing them of their involvement in witchcraft practice and started assaulting them.

The couple kept denying and protested against the accusation but Ekka dissatisfied with all denial murdered them mercilessly.

The daughter of the deceased couple later lodged a complaint against the accused person. Police arrested Suraj Ekka as per the daughter's complaint.

It is reported by police that Ekka has confessed to committing the brutal murder of the husband-wife duo.

A local police officer informed that the accused stated that he was suspicious about the elderly couple practicing witchcraft and casting spells on his wife. In his confession, he added that this is the reason for which he killed Sukra Kasua and his wife.

As per reports, Ekka's wife was suffering from certain illness since the last few months but there was no sign of recovery despite medical treatments.
