Assam : Electricity Regulatory Commission Postpones Hike Till March

GUWAHATI : Assam's Electricity Regulatory Commission announced that there will be no increase in electricity rates before March. The commission made this announcement on 3rd of January 2023.

Only after the opinions and consent from the public, the board will take its call. People, parties and organisation can put up their concerns and complaints in the portal of Electricity Regulatory Commission until 22nd of January.

Later, the department will decide whether to or not to put up a hike on the electricity bills.

It is to be noted that, recently the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) has put forward a condition where electricity rates will be increased by Re 1 per unit in Assam.

The decision was proposed to provide proper services and and reliable supply to the general public. Prior to this particular proposal, on December 2022, the APDCL had increased the electricity bill by 30 paise.

Customers were issued directives in relation to this on 9th of December 2022. Additionally, it had announced an imposition of Fuel and Power Purchase Price Adjustment (FPPPA) charge of 79 paise per unit.

This was to be applicable from the month of November and December 2022 and January 2023. Nevertheless, APDCL rolled back the imposition on 26th of November, 2022. On 9th of December, APDCL once again announced a levy of 30 paise per unit.

However, consumers neglected the on and off FPPPA impositions by APDCL. In the month of September, APDCL accepted the fact that certain inconsistencies were present in the monthly electricity rates.

The company further appealed its customer to put up complaints if they had faced any.

The decision made by the Electricity Regulatory Commission of Assam is a sight of relief for the people of state. The commission has used its power to hear out the opinions of the public and act accordingly.
