Guwahati: In an effort to weed out the extremist element in Assam, a massive eviction drive is underway at the sealed Jamiul Huda Madrassa in Moirabari in the Morigaon district of Assam.
The madrassa happened to be a hotbed of jihadi activities in the state.
The police, on July 28, arrested Mufti Mustafa, the head of the madrassa after it was alleged that he shared close ties with a terror outfit.
Various documents including a bank passbook and mobile phones were seized by the cops from Mustafa's possession. Thereafter, the madrassa was immediately sealed.
"The madrassa has been evicted after a demolition order by the DDMA, PWD and other authorities. As per the demolition order, the madrassa is no longer habitable," said Aparna N, the SP of Morigaon.
Meanwhile, it had come to the fore that Mustafa was in close contact with Amiruddin Ansari of the Bangladesh-based Ansarullah Bangla Team.
Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta had asserted that the militant organizations are gradually trying to target Assam.
''They are trying to provoke Muslim youths of the state by entering the state via Bangladesh,'' he added.
Educated at Deoband in Uttar Pradesh, Mustafa Mufti set up his private madrassa at Moirabari in the Morigaon district in 2018.
Mufti had been getting funds from the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), a Bangladesh-based jihadi organization, since 2020.
The government had asked the district authorities to make arrangements for the admission of the students to other schools.
