Guwahati: The Commissioner of Excise, Assam on Thursday categorically dismissed the media reports which claimed that the price of the liquor would go up by 65 percent in the wake of revision in the excise duty structure.
In its official statement, the Commissionerate of Excise said that the attention of the Commossionerate of Excise has been drawn to various news items published in the Print, Electronic as well as Social media platforms that the price of liquor would go up by 65% in the wake of revision in Excise Duty structure.
''It is to clarify that the levy structure has NOT been increased by 65% nor the prices of liquor products shall go up by 65% as being reported,'' the commissioner said.
It further clarified that the upward Excise Duty revision would lead to a marginal increase in MRP by 3 to 8% only of some selected brands, e.g. McDowell Celebration Rum (4.2%), Officers Choice or Directors Special (8.33%), Royal Stag, Royal Challenge, 8 PM, etc. (4.65%), 100 Pipers, Black Dog, etc. (3.33%).
