DISPUR:
At a time when Assam, like the rest of the country, is suffering from the demonic grasp of the COVID-19 pandemic, cases of fake doctors getting nabbed have witnessed a massive spike.
According to reports, Majuli police arrested a fake doctor who had been treating patients for the past 25 years on Wednesday night.
According to reports, a man from Uttar Pradesh named Uttam Kushwaha set up his medical chamber near the Jengraimukh Police Station in Lakhimi gaon and had been treating patients.
A large team of civil administration and police officers nabbed the fraudulent doctor after receiving a tip. The squad also seized lakhs of rupees in cash and medical tools from the imposter doctor.
During the interrogation, the accused confessed that he purchased a fraudulent medical education certificate for Rs.2000 in 1991 and has been treating patients in Majuli since then, taking advantage of the locals' gullibility.
He admitted that, in addition to treating people with various conditions such as fever, discomfort, and so on, he also treated dental patients.
According to police sources, the phoney doctor supplied medications that had been prohibited by the Medical Council of India for many years.
Previously, two fake doctors had been nabbed in Guwahati's Maligaon.
One of them was a fake dermatologist who was arrested by the Assam Police. The accused, Amit Kumar, a Bihar native, had opened up shop at Maligaon Gate No. 1, Ulubari, and the Gauhati Club in this city. He had rooms at Tangla and Bongaigaon as well. Kumar pretended to be a dermatologist, according to authorities. The police have taken a four-wheeler vehicle, as well as other drugs and equipment, from his rooms. He was arrested in connection with a case (640/2021) filed at the Jalukbari Police Station.
The other one was a fake doctor masquerading as a cardiologist who had been apprehended by the Assam Police.
Meanwhile, a fake medical official with a counterfeit MBBS degree was apprehended at the Mokalbari tea estate in Assam's Dibrugarh district. Simon Nag, the accused, has been impersonating Dr. Stephen Anthony since 2009 in order to get employed at several hospitals.
