Assam: Fake Facebook ID Of Biswajit Daimary Detected, Files Complaint

GUWAHATI: A fake Facebook account has been created by someone in the name of Biswajit Daimary, the state legislative assembly speaker. The information came forth after Daimary lodged a complaint regarding the same in the police department, seeking investigation on Wednesday.

According to Daimary, the unidentified man behind this has sent messages from the fake id to several people, asking money. Biswajit Daimary informed that, 'an account in my name has been created by someone, and he/she has also asked money from the fake id.

Hence, a complaint has been lodged with the concerned department'. ACP Himangshu Das informed that, the cops have already began the investigation process and also took assistance from CID in the matter. On Wednesday, another case of fake social media account came to light in the name of newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Diganta Borah.

Borah posted a picture from his original Facebook account, and notified everybody regarding the fake id. He further requested his fans, followers and family to avoid any sort of messages sent from the face account. 'Again a fake account. Please ignore if anyone gets any friend request from this fake account' Diganta Borah captioned the post.

It is worth mentioning here that, this is not the first time a case of cyber crime has been registered by top government official. Prior to this incident, varied accounts were created in the name of personnels from the state administration. In July 2022, a fake WhatsApp account was discovered in the name of Bimal Bora, Assam industry and commerce minister.

The cyber criminal has used Bora's picture for the same. Further, the accused tried to extort money from high dignitaries of the department by sending them messages from the fake WhatsApp account. Later, after the account was detected, the minister lodged a complaint as a result of which a person was nabbed by the police force.

Additionally, fake WhatsApp accounts were also created in the name of Pallav Gopal Jha, the Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner, and Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, the former DGP of Assam.
