Guwahati: On Friday night, a fake fashion event had escalated to a violent situation in Machkhowa's Pragjyotish Auditorium in Guwahati.

The incident had reportedly taken place in the middle of a fashion show at the Pragjyotish Auditorium.

The fashion competition was organized by a company called Star India Capital which was later revealed to be a fake one.

The director of the fake company, Shah Rukh Ali Khan and the host of the event Dhruvjyoti Sharma allegedly ran away as soon as the show started.

The whole matter was reported to the police by the contestants of the fashion show. However, the contestants were instead beaten up by the police.

The fashion industry had reportedly been struggling since the imposition of lockdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic since last year.

A 28-year-old model described her plight and said, "I have been modelling in Assam for 3-4 years. However, I have been forced to relocate to my hometown as we cannot afford to pay our rent. We have been hit especially hard as our profession involves gatherings. This is especially unfortunate as the Assam fashion industry is only now beginning to take wings. The digital medium can be used for promotions, but the earnings have really dried up; it cannot help us economically."

Fraudulent activities such as fake fashion shows are only adding to the woes of those who have already been hit hard by the pandemic.
