ABHAYAPURI: A fire broke out in the Pakhiriguri locality of the Abhayapuri late at night, leading to massive losses in property. Although no person was injured in this incident, several vehicles were gutted by the raging inferno.

According to local sources, the fire initially broke out in a Kacha house located adjacent to the road in the Pakhiriguri locality. The incident took place at around 2 AM and almost everyone was fast asleep.

The fire spread to the residence of one Anukul Medhi and caused massive damage to the property. The fire completely gutted the kitchen, granary and cow shed. A tractor, a bolero pickup and two two-wheelers were also destroyed in this fire.

The local people informed the fire and emergency services as well as the Borghola Police Station immediately. Two fire tenders arrived at the location and doused the fire before it could spread anywhere else. The local people also worked hard to ensure

The total losses in property because of this incident of fire are said to be around Rs 20 lakhs. But the cause of the fire has not been known yet.

Previously on Wednesday, a major fire incident sent shockwaves through Kasaripeti, block no III, situated under the jurisdiction of Barghola police station in Bongaigaon district, Assam. Reports suggest that the fire initially erupted at the home of Khusbor Ali, where it is suspected that an electrical short circuit may have ignited the blaze. The fire started in the kitchen area and quickly spread to other sections of the house.

The inferno resulted in significant losses, estimated in lakhs of rupees, as valuable property was consumed by the flames. Fortunately, the swift response of the local residents helped prevent even more extensive damage. Efforts to seek assistance included informing the local fire brigade, but their response was delayed due to the challenging road conditions leading to the incident site. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for accessible and prompt firefighting services, especially in remote areas, to prevent such devastating occurrences.
