GUWAHATI: In a recent turn of events, Rafikul Islam, the prime accused in the shooting incident that took place in Dhubri, Assam, found himself injured during a confrontation with the police as he attempted to escape custody. The incident unfolded as Rafikul Islam and six other individuals were apprehended by law enforcement in connection with their alleged involvement in the shooting case.
As the authorities were transferring Rafikul Islam and his accomplices to the police station, he made a desperate attempt to flee. To prevent his escape, the police had no choice but to employ controlled firing, resulting in Rafikul Islam sustaining an injury to his leg. Subsequently, he was immediately admitted to the Dhubri Medical College and Hospital for medical treatment and evaluation.
The shooting incident that led to Rafikul Islam's arrest occurred in Sashargaon, a locality within the Dhubri District. The victim of the shooting, identified as Nandan Nath, had been left wounded after Rafikul Islam allegedly shot at him following a theft. The incident had sparked a police investigation, ultimately leading to the arrest of the prime suspect and his associates.
The individuals arrested alongside Rafikul Islam were identified as Nurmahamad Ali, Sahab Uddin, Muhammad Ali, Mehbub Alom, Riyajul alias Panku, and Hamidul Islam. During the arrests, law enforcement confiscated two rounds of live ammunition, a motorbike, and an unregistered four-wheeler, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the potential threat posed by the group.
