Assam Flood: Kopili River Flowing Above Danger Level

GUWAHATI: On Sunday, the Kopili River was flowing above the danger level in Assam's Kampur, making the flooding situation dangerous.

According to reports, the Kopili River is flowing above its danger levels due to the unfavorable weather and heavy rains.

Kampur has been flooded as a result of the Khandong dam's dam gates opening in Dima Hasao's Umrangso.

On Sunday, Assam's rivers continued to flow above the danger level in various parts of the state, worsening the already dire flood situation.

According to a morning report from the Central Water Commission (CWC), the Brahmaputra was flowing over the red mark in Nematighat in the Jorhat district.

The danger threshold has also been crossed by the Kopili in Kampur (Nagaon) and the Puthimari in the Kamrup district.

According to the CWC bulletin, several other rivers, including the Brahmaputra in various locations, were also flowing above the warning level.

37,535 people in 10 districts of Assam have been impacted by the flooding as of Saturday, according to a report from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

Although the flood waters have not yet claimed any lives, a landslip in Guwahati has claimed the life of one person.

Embankments across the state have reportedly been damaged or breached, and there has been significant erosion in some areas.

Furthermore, flooding has severely harmed transportation because it has cut off connectivity to these villages. As a result, the villagers are having problems.

It should be noted that the Khandong Dam at Umrangso in Dima Hasao, Assam, had up to six gates opened on Friday by the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO).

According to reports, the decision to open the dam gates was made after the Khargol and Kopili Rivers' water levels exceeded their safe levels due to the persistent rains in Assam and the Northeast.

All operations at the NEEPCO-operated 75 Megawatt project were suspended following an accident last year, and they are still suspended today.
