GOLAGHAT: People who are living under Khumtai and Bokakhat Revenue Circles in the Golaghat district are facing massive flood problems. Most of the villages in the revenue circles in Golaghat district are under flood waters. People and animals are taking shelter on the roadside and on the highlands.

According to official records, on Tuesday till filing of this report, over 26,532 people of 38 villages under Khumtai and Bokakhat Revenue Circles in Golaghat district have been affected by floods due to the raising water of Brahmaputra River. The district administration has stepped up rescue and rehabilitation efforts and has taken immediate steps to provide relief material to the flood-affected people.

According to official reports of the last 24 hours, 34 villages under Bokakhat revenue circle, 4 villages under Khumtai revenue circle have been affected in this wave of flood. In the wave of flood altogether, 96 hectares of agricultural land is currently under water while total livestock affected is 2000 (1200 big and 800 small).

15 relief distribution centres have been set up at Bokakhat. So far, 274.60 quintals of rice, 50.92 quintals of dal, 15.27 quintals of salt and 1527.75 litres of mustard oil have been distributed among the flood-affected people.
