LAKHIMPUR: The flood situation remains grim in Lakhimpur district. Though 88 revenue villages under 7 Revenue Circles (RC) of the district were reeling under flood till Sunday, the present wave of flood inundated 20 more revenue villages on Monday, increasing the number of affected villages up to 108.

However, with the cease of heavy downfall on Monday, flood receded from 27 revenue villages on Tuesday. At present, a total of 81 villages across the district under 6 RCs are still affected by flood. Out of them, 20 villages under Narayanpur RC, 12 villages under Dhakuakhana RC, 30 villages under Subansiri RC, 4 villages under Naoboicha RC, 12 villages under Bihpuriya RC and 3 villages under Kadam RC are reeling under water.

As per report, flood receded from one village under Narayanpur RC, 2 villages under Subansiri RC and 24 villages under Bihpuriya RC. A total of 28,857 people, 1,472.30 hectares of crop area, 8,883 big animals, 4,736 small animals and 4,534 poultry were affected by the present wave of flash flood on Tuesday.

In Dhakuakhana RC, slump down occurred at Dhapolial with a reach length of 300m and Parghat with a reach length of 400m at Kotha RB due to heavy current of River Kotha. On the other hand, erosion caused breach in the embankment of Purani Bahgora under Bihpuriya RC.

NEEPCO stopped the release of excess water from the Ranganadi dam of Ranganadi Hydro Electric Plant (RHEP) on Monday.
