Assam floods: Erosion poses threat in Doomdooma

DOOMDOOMA: Close on the heels of flood that left behind a trail of destruction in and around Doomdooma affecting a population of 44,629 and crop damage of 2,915 Ha, besides loss of domestic animals and poultry spread over 83 villages, including wards no.1, 2, 8, 9 and 10 of Doomdooma Municipal Board (DMB) area, erosion has started in the downstream of Dibru River in Ward No.1 of the town.

Already many houses on the bank of the river have been eroded away by Dibru River. It is apprehended that if the erosion goes on unchecked, the devastation will be much more. Intimation has been sent to the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia, Circle Officer, Doomdooma Revenue Circle-cum-Executive Officer, Doomdooma Municipal Board to take immediate measures to stop the erosion.
