Assam Floods: Flash floods affect 44 villages in Tinsukia district

DOOMDOOMA: Due to incessant rains in Arunachal Pradesh and in the catchment areas, flash flood inundated 44 villages in three Revenue Circles (RC) of the Tinsukia district, according to FRIMS (Flood Reporting And Information Management System), Tinsukia.

In Doomdooma Revenue Circle, the number of flood affected revenue villages is 26 while in Chapakhowa and Tinsukia Revenue Circles, the number of such villages are 1 and 17 respectively. About 25,000 people are reeling under flood and the district administration has opened five relief camps for their shelter (three in Doomdooma RC and two in Tinsukia RC). Although no loss of human life or animals have been reported so far, the flood has affected around 350 hectares of crop areas. Besides the five relief camps, the district administration has opened 21 Relief Distribution Centres (two each in Doomdooma and Chapakhowa RCs and 17 in Tinsukia RC).

On the other hand, the Water Resource Department informed that active river erosion was going on in Khamtiguwali Koila Pather since Wednesday at a stretch area of 100 metres.
