SILCHAR: Barak Valley got cut off from rest of the country once again as landslides were reported near Sonapur in Badarpur Jowai national highway on Wednesday morning. Reports of further landslides in Ratacherra area in Assam, Meghalaya also poured in. East Jaintia Hill Police in a communication asked the commuters to refrain from travelling till the situation is normal.
On Wednesday Barak Valley saw heavy shower throughout the day. Various parts of Silchar town were inundated. Water level of Barak river was rising at an alarming rate of even 25 cm in an hour in the noon. Couple of weeks ago south Assam experienced worst flood situation in last two decades.
