NAGAON: Although the overall flood situation in the Nagaon district has slightly improved, yet post-flood diseases like vomiting and loose motion have wrecked havoc now in the flood-ravaged areas at Nagaon, Kampur, Raha and other parts of the district. According to sources from the District Health Services, Nagaon, three women hailing from the flood-hit Kampur areas died of post-flood diseases like vomiting and loose motion within a week. The women who died of post-flood diseases are Hushnara Begum (35) of Pachim Kakotigaon, Parbin Sultana (25) of Dabolu Beel and Bulbuli Begum (45) of Kampur police station. Among the three deceased women, Hushnara Begum died on June 26 in a temporary shelter at Kampur and Parbin Sultana died on June 24 after being admitted to Nagaon BP Civil Hospital while Bulbuli Begum died on the same day, i.e., June 24 in Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) when she was undergoing treatment, sources added.

Following the death of these women, the special medical expert team from GMCH visited the flood-ravaged areas of the district on Friday and Saturday and reviewed the health-related issues of the people of those areas. Besides, the medical experts from Guwahati also collected various samples related to diseases from various people living in flood relief camps as well as other places in the flood-hit areas of the district, sources said, adding further that the experts were yet to confirm the diseases and further testing as well as examination were on.
