JORHAT: The first wave of floods in the state of Assam has affected many in recent times. After thousands were displaced and huge amounts of crops destroyed because do flooding, the train communication to a part of upper Assam has now been adversely affected.

The rising waters have crossed the danger mark at the Namsasujan, which is located near the Lahing station in Mariani. This has led to the halting of multiple trains at the Titabor and Aamguri Junctions of the state. The Railway Protection Force and railway officials arrived at the railway bridge and later closed it for any movement.

Meanwhile, locals mentioned that the particular point is a bottleneck in the natural waterway, leading to a rise in the water levels. And that the authorities are trying to clear an alternate way for the water.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi a few days back to provide an update on the ongoing flood situation in the state. In their meeting, Sarma apprised the Prime Minister about the steps taken by the state government to offer relief and rehabilitation to the affected individuals and communities. The Prime Minister commended the efforts made by the Assam government in dealing with the flood situation and assured Sarma of the central government's full support and assistance.

Furthermore, Sarma discussed various development initiatives implemented by the state government with Prime Minister Modi. He emphasized Assam's progress in terms of key indicators, including revenue mobilization, during a detailed 55-minute discussion. Sarma expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Finance for its generous support in terms of capital assistance and the advance release of devolution funds. These initiatives have enabled Assam to expedite welfare-oriented programs and capital expenditure.
