Guwahati: Two police personnel were washed away in flood waters in Assam's Nagaon district on Sunday night.

As per reports, the incident took place when a team of Kampur police station led by the Officer-in-Charge of the police station on late Sunday night went to investigate a case. The two police officers including the Officer-in-Charge were washed away in flood waters.

Both the officers have been identified as Samujjal Kakoty and Rajib Bordoloi.

So far, the body of the constable has been recovered, but the Officer-in-Charge of Kampur police station is still missing.

Meanwhile, the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), Fire and Emergency Services, and the police teams have launched a search operation to find out the missing police officer.

Floods continued to remain grim in the state on Sunday. Nine people lost their lives due to floods and landslides in the state in the past 24 hours. Eight people are missing. The flood and landslide toll in the state rose to 71 this year.

It has affected 42,28,157 people of 5,137 villages in 33 districts in the state. The deluge also inundated 107370.43 hectares of standing crops.

According to the flood bulletin of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 1,86,424 inmates are taking shelter in 1,147 relief camps in the state.
