Goalpara: Along with other districts of the State, Goalpara has also been severely affected by flood. Around 4.5 lakh people in the district have been affected in this deluge.

The flood scene is worst in the Lakhipur revenue circle of Jaleswar constituency where 2.87 lakh people of 151 villages have been affected. About 1,13 lakh people of 66 villages of Balijana revenue circle have also been affected. A total of 18,605 people have taken shelter in the 92 relief camps set up and looked after by the district administration in the four revenue circles.

On Friday, Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka led the rescue operation in Jaleswar and monitored the relief distribution through a motor boat. She also interacted with the camp inmates as well as the affected people.

Later, while talking to the media persons, she said, "The district administration in Goalpara has been continuously ensuring rescue and relief efforts. Officers of Revenue and Disaster Management are continuously visiting the flood-affected areas and ensuring GR distribution, sanitation and hygiene while taking precautions related to COVID-19." The district administration has set up 32 relief camps and began distributing relief materials like rice, pulses, salt and mustard oil, besides face masks and hand sanitizers.
