Assam forest official, guard arrested for graft in Udalguri

TANGLA: Two officials of the Assam Forest Department, an officer and a guard were caught red-handed while accepting bribe money at Udalguri on Friday. According to reports, sleuths of the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption laid a trap and arrested Beat Officer of the Divisional Forest Office, Dhansiri Forest Division, Udalguri, Lachit Bora after he accepted bribe from a complainant for providing him relief in ferrying forest products from the office premises of the Divisional Forest Officer, Dhansiri Forest Division, Udalguri.

In the same operation, a forest guard, Binesh Daimari was also netted immediately after he accepted a part of the bribe amount. The bribe money was also recovered from the possession of the accused officials. A case has also been registered against the officials under relevant provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) and IPC. The complainant requesting anonymity said that the forest officials were regularly harassing and hounding the persons involved in the business of forest products and collecting huge amount from them in lieu of providing protection.
