GUWAHATI: Two forest officials in Assam's Kokrajhar district were arrested on bribery charges by sleuths of the Vigilance & Anti Corruption cell on Friday.
Forester Kamini Narzary, and Forest Guard Prabin Brahma have been identified as the two officials arrested on charges of accepting bribes.
The probe agency disclosed that a trap was set for the duo and they were caught red-handed while accepting the earlier demanded money for regularizing a forest case at Gossaigaon.
Meanwhile, a case under relevant sections of the pertinent laws relating to corruption has been registered against the duo.
"Sri Kamini Narzary Forester Grade B & Sri Prabin Brahma Forest Guard have been trapped and arrested red-handed today by team of @DIR_VAC_ASSAM while accepting demanded money for regularising a forest case at Gossaigaon, Kokrajhar", Assam Special DGP, GP Singh tweeted.
It was also made known that the Vigilance & Anti-corruption cell, along with the Assam Police, is keeping a strict vigil to curb all kinds of corruption activities across the state. In the last few months, many state government officials were caught red-handed while accepting bribes.
Even the Assam Police is not outside the purview of the Vigilance & Anti-Corruption as evident from a recent message to police officers on the subject.
Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption has sent a message to police officers across Assam informing that a close watch is being kept on personal integrity alongside professional performance at all levels.
To drive home this point, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Directorate of Assam police last week arrested a Sub-Inspector in central Assam's Nagaon district on charges of bribery.The arrested police Sub-Inspector was identified as Anup Kakati and he was posted at the Kachua police station in Nagaon district.
Assam Police Special DGP (Law & Order) GP Singh stated in a tweet recently that since May 10, 2021, the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam has caught 34 public servants, including 13 Gazetted Officers, red-handed while accepting bribes. A total of 21 public servants have been trapped and arrested this year. In the last 10 days, seven public servants, including three Gazetted Officers were trapped and arrested.
