Assam: Former president of All Assam Tribal Sangha, Social activist Ranjit Kr Borgoyary passes away

Former president of All Assam Tribal Sangha (AATS), life member of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) and a great social activist Ranjit Kr. Borgoyary passed away on Saturday morning due to old age ailment at around 9.15 am at his residence, Titaguri 4-km north of Kokrajhar town.

KOKRAJHAR: Former president of All Assam Tribal Sangha (AATS), life member of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) and a great social activist Ranjit Kr. Borgoyary passed away on Saturday morning due to old age ailment at around 9.15 am at his residence, Titaguri 4-km north of Kokrajhar town. He was 83. A multifaceted personality, Borgoyary retired as a school teacher from Kokrajhar Government Higher Secondary and Multipurpose School. He was the president of All Assam Tribal Sangha for long years and was also the life member of BSS. He was also the chairman of ABSU’s constitution drafting committee and one of the architects of the ABSU’s emblem.

Borgoyary received the Chief Minister’s Best Community Action Award in 2020. He was the team leader of the football team of Kokrajhar HS & MP School in Subroto Cup which emerged champion in 1981. He was also the founder member of the undivided Goalpara District Bodo Students’ Union (GDBSU) in 1966 and the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) in 1967. Besides, he was the president of Kokrajhar district Bodo Sahitya Sabha from 1967 to 1989. He actively participated in the Roman script movement of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha and was jailed for 5 months. He was associated with a number of social organizations and was a great social activist. The All Assam Tribal Association, Bodo Sahitya Sabha and other tribal organizations have expressed deep sorrow over his death and offered condolences on his demise besides sharing grief with the bereaved family members.
