MANGALDAI: After a long gap of 15 years since it became functional in the year 2007, Krishi Vigyan Kendra ( KVK), Darrang under Assam Agricultural University (AAU) Jorhat is all set to get its permanent office building.
Dr Bidyut Chandan Deka, Vice-Chancellor of AAU, on Saturday laid the foundation stone of the new administrative building to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.70 crore at its Gelaidingi village campus near here. Talking to the media, VC Dr Deka said that the building would be completed in less than a year and it would then help the KVK scientists in imparting training to the farmers through demonstrations, which otherwise was not feasible in the field. He also said that the KVK would have demonstration units of piggery, poultry etc. which will benefit the local farmers. He hoped that with the full-fledged functional of the KVK, there will be new revolution in the agro sector of the Darrang district. Earlier, speaking on the occasion, VC Dr Deka offered his thanks and gratitude to all the rank and file of the KVK and others who had contributed in clearing the hurdles in acquiring the government allotted land from illegal occupants.
Mazibur Rahman, MLA of Dalgaon, Gurujyoti Das, chairman, Assam Fisheries Development Corporation, Dr Prasanna Kumar Pathak, Director Extension Education, AAU, and Dr Kadirvel Govindasamy, Director, ATARI Guwahati also addressed the function. In the beginning, Dr Abdul Hafiz, head of KVK Darrang explained the objectives.
