TINSUKIA:  In a major breakthrough, Tinsukia police led by ASP Moidul Islam apprehended four members of an armed dacoit gang involved in a robbery case at Duamara under Pangeree PS in Tinsukia district and retrieved all the robbed articles, including cash and jewelry, on Thursday night.

According to police sources, the dacoity was committed on Wednesday evening at Duamara Bebejia village when a six-member gang of dacoits armed with handguns, swords and machete barged into the shop-cum-house of Aswain Dey and looted Rs 1,80,000 in cash and gold jewelry worth Rs 2 lakh. The accused have been identified as Santosh Lama (25), the mastermind and surrendered ULFA cadre; Abhinash Orang (18); both hail from Duamara Balijan village; Bijul Moran (33) and Ratneswar Baruah (32) alias Tetan, a homeguard engaged in OIL Duliajan, both residents of Dirak Sunjan village. Two accomplices- Prem Pator and Lachit Mura have absconded. The police also recovered the gun and other weapons used in the robbery from their procession.
