Guwahati: The Dispur police has arrested four persons for allegedly forging Assam Chief Minister's signature for a government contract.

The four persons belong to Demow in the district of Dhemaji. The accused had forged the Assam CM's signature for a government contract under the state's Jal Jeevan Mission. It is to be mentioned that the contract was worth Rs.3 crores. 

The accused involved in the crime are Pankaj Gogoi, Deepjyoti Dutta, Yemini Mohan and Binit Poddar. 

Imran Shah, who had planned the entire scam and is being called the mastermind has absconded, according to sources. The police are putting in efforts to arrest him as soon as possible.

As per the statement of one of the imposters, Deepjyoti Dutta, the four persons had planned to siphon off Rs.3 crores from the government by forging the signature of Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Last month, 40 employees were suspended on the instruction of the state government based on the report submitted by the Fact-Finding Committee formed after the news of illegal appointment came into light by a Guwahati-based media house. The suspension of all 40 illegally appointed employees was ordered by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation's (GMC) personnel branch.

As per reports, the appointments of all 40 candidates in different departments took place without any valid advertisement.
