Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court granted bail to Former Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Saibur Rahman on June 29 in connection with the village headmen (Gaonburha) appointment scam.

Notably, the hearing of the case was previously held on May 23 and the court granted bail to Rahman on June 29 after the final hearing. To his relief, he was granted bail on all the cases impending against him.

Earlier in November, the civil servant was granted bail on the charges of acquiring disproportionate assets worth over Rs. 100 crore. The CM Vigilance Cell arrested him back in August last year.

Despite the court giving 90 days of time, the CM Vigilance Cell failed to submit the charge sheet, as a result of which, Rahman was granted bail in the case.

However, the SP of CM Vigilance Cell, Rosy Kalita, dismissed these claims by saying that they were not late in submitting the charge sheet.

The 92-pages charge sheet was submitted by the vigilance cell on November 23. In turn, the court refuted these claims by saying that the 90 days period was already completed on November 22.

According to Rosy Kalita, the 90 days time period was not over as Rahman was apprehended on August 24.

A complaint was earlier filed against Saibur Rahman, wherein, it was alleged that the former ADC acquired disproportionate assets by illegal and corrupt means and an investigation was launched by the CM Vigilance Cell based on this complaint.

He was booked under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act 2018.
