GUWAHATI: Gauhati University to implement National Education Policy -2020 based Four Year Under Graduate Program (GU-FYUGP) from the Academic Season 2023-24 in the University campus and all affiliated colleges under GU.
According to the official website of Gauhati University, “Each semester of a 4-Year Bachelor Degree (FYUGP) course will have a maximum of 22 credits with a total of 132 credits for 3-Year Degree Course and 176 credits for a 4-Year Degree Course. Apparently, the Masters Course will have 44 credits in a year with a total of 88 credits in two years. The baseline for total credits is 120 for a 3-Year course and 160 for a 4-Year course. So, a student can choose to have a total credit between 120 and 132 by the end of a 3-Year Bachelor's Degree course.”
According to Vice Chancellor Prof. Pratap Jyoti Handique, a new campus NEP Facilitation Centre in the GU campus is ready to begin FYUGP with around 500 students of Arts, Science and integrated B.Com stream students.
As per GU's official roadmap, “The basic structure of the FYUGP will be as per the broad structure in line with the UGC’s Draft Curriculum for the same.
Each year will have two semesters with a total of 6 semesters for a Bachelor's Degree after 3 years (with/without Major / Minor) and 8 semesters for a Bachelor's Degree with Honours (or by Research) after 4 years.”
The National Education Policy -2020 of FYUGP rules Gauhati University to provide options for multiple entries of courses, such as a Certificate, Diploma, or Degree with or without a Major, or a Degree (Honours) or a Degree (Honours) with Research at various levels in all affiliated colleges under Gauhati University and on the Gauhati University campus.
Meanwhile, the university has previously secured clearance from several committees and forums to ensure the smooth implementation of the new programme. The Academic Council of Gauhati University, chaired by the Vice Chancellor, also accepted the syllabi for the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP).
