Assam: GMCH Cardiology Dept Recognized as Top Performing Centre-State Wise According to NIC 2023

GUWAHATI: For the year 2022, the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital Cardiology Department outperformed all other centres with cardiac catheterization laboratory facilities (both private and public sector) in the State of Assam in terms of the volume of coronary angioplasty and stenting procedures performed.

Taking on Twitter, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta informed, “A significant achievement for Cardiology Dept. @gmchgauhati on being recognised as top performing Centre-State wise for the year 2022 amongst all Centres with Cardiac Cath lab facility (both private as well as Govt. sector) in the #Assam for performing the highest no. of. Coronary Angioplasty and Stenting procedures - as per National Interventional Data presented during the mid-term @CSI_NICmeet2023 at #Hyderabad.”

This information was disclosed in the National Interventional Data provided yesterday, or on Saturday, during the National Interventional Council (NIC 2023), Cardiological Society of India's ongoing mid-term meeting in Hyderabad.

It was made possible by the incredibly diligent work of all the faculty members and the entire cardiology staff at CN Centre, GMCH. The National Interventional Council, Cardiological Society of India, uses the NIC register as the gold standard register for all cath interventions carried out in India. It aids cardiac hospitals and interventional cardiologists in evaluating and raising the standard of care they provide to patients.

On the other hand, on June 26, at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma dedicated six new healthcare projects to the citizens.

The 10 bed ICU project, the National Emergency Life Support Skill Centre at GMCH, the Multidisciplinary Research Unit at GMCH, the 32 Slice CT Scanner at GMCH, the Molecular Oncology Lab for State Cancer Institute at GMCH, and the Asset Management Portal are the projects that have been launched.

At the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma dedicated six new healthcare projects to the state's residents on Monday.

The 10 bed ICU project, the National Emergency Life Support Skill Centre at GMCH, the Multidisciplinary Research Unit at GMCH, the 32 Slice CT Scanner at GMCH, the Molecular Oncology Lab for State Cancer Institute at GMCH, and the Asset Management Portal are the projects that have been launched.

Additionally, a measure has been taken to strengthen the research endeavors of staff and students through the Multidisciplinary Research Unit established at GMCH. The installation of a 32 Slice CT Scan Machine at GMCH, which cost Rs. 2.73 crore, would aid in the field of advanced patient diagnosis.
