Assam: Goods Train Derailed In Tezpur; Trains Running Between Rangapara North - Dekargaon Section Suspended

Tezpur: A goods train carrying cement derailed on the morning of 18 February in Tezpur between Rangapara North and Bindukuri station in the branch line which leads to Dekargaon station under Rangiya division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) in Assam.

The incident occurred at around 8:26 am and as many as 15 bogies of the goods train were derailed in this unfortunate incident.

The train was travelling in the Rangiya Junction - Rangapara South - Murkongselek mainline section.

There are no casualties or injuries reported in this incident.

Meanwhile, trains running on the Rangapara North - Dekargaon branch line sections have been suspended as a result of the derailment.

The details are as follows:

1. 05819/ 05820 Dekargaon - Bhalukpong - Dekargaon passenger spl of 18.02.2022 will remain cancelled.

2. 05821 UP Rangiya - Dekargaon passenger spl of 18.02.2022 will be short terminated at Rangapara North.

3. 05822 DN Dekargaon - Rangiya passenger spl of 18.02.2022 will short originate from Rangapara North.

Senior officials of Rangiya Division are at the site so as to restore the section as early as possible.

Earlier last month, a Bikaner - Guwahati express was derailed and it led to the death of at least 9 people and more than 45 people travelling on the train have succumbed to severe injuries.

An ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh had been announced for the kin of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh for those who received grievous injuries and Rs 25,000 for those who suffered simple injuries.

The train mishap took place in the area of Moynaguri town that comes under Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal.

Most of the victims were from Assam as the train on that day was heading towards the capital city Guwahati from West Bengal.

According to updates provided by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, a number of 12 coaches of the Binakar-Guwahati Express train went off the rail lines and some of the coaches overturned during the time of the derailment
