GUWAHATI: The state government of Assam has announced that the meritorious students of the state will be receiving a two-wheeler each. These vehicles will be provided under the Dr Banikanta Kakati Awards scheme of the state government.
The Assam Cabinet had a meeting on Wednesday, wherein several key decisions were taken by the ministers. Out of them, one was to provide two-wheelers to students performing well in the Class 12 Final Examinations which is conducted by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council . According to the decision taken by the cabinet ministers, these two-wheelers will be provided to male students who secure over 75 per cent and female students who score over 60 per cent in the higher secondary examination.
It was also announced that the formal distribution of these vehicles will be done on 30 November and 1 December 2023. As per the numbers released by the authorities, a total of 35,775 two-wheelers will be distributed among the eligible students on the mentioned date. Out of that number, a total of 30,209 girl students and 5,566 boy students will be receiving the two-wheelers under this scheme.
They also announced that all students scoring 75 per cent and above in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination which is conducted by the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) will be eligible for the Anundoram Borooah Award Scheme. Under this scheme, the eligible students will be receiving a cash award of Rs 15,000. This amount will be handed over to a total of 27183 students from across the state on 29 November 2023.
Making this announcement, Tourism Minister of Assam Jayanta Mallabaruah said, “On November 29, we will give away the Anundoram Borooah Award to 27,183 HSLC-passed students with above 75 per cent marks for the purchase of computer sets. Each of such students will get Rs 15,000 deposited in his or her account. On November 30 and December 1, as many as 35,776 students will get Scooty under the Banikanta Kakati Award.”
