BONGAIGAON:  More than one lakh employees of the Central and State governments from all over India assembled on Thursday at Ramlila Maidan of New Delhi for the demand to restore the Old Pension Scheme.

Addressing the gathering, Shiv Gopal Mishra, general secretary of All India Railwaymen’s Federation said that this is a ‘do or die’ fight for employees. “The government employees employed after 2004 are not entitled to the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). This is betrayal. If the National Pension System (NPS) is better than OPS, then why are ministers, MPs, and MLAs still covered under OPS? Today this huge gathering of employees proves that if the government does not restore OPS and scrap NPS, then employees are ready to use their votes in the 2024 Parliamentary election. So, if this government wants to win again in 2024, then it must restore OPS before the election,” he said.

Before the meeting, a mass rally started from Ajmeri Gate of New Delhi station to Ramlila Maidan. At Ramlila Maidan, all central and state government unions and federations assembled for the protest meeting.

From the Northeast Frontier Railway Mazdoor Union also more than 1000 activists participated in this programme under leadership of president Dilip Chakraborty and general secretary Ashish Biswas.
