GUWAHATI: The government of Assam has recently issued fresh standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the upcoming celebration of 73rd Republic Day in the state on 26 January.

According to the new SOPs by the state government, Republic Day will be observed across the state with a minimum number of people being present at any event organized for Republic Day.

Through the SOP the government informed that there will be no cultural programme organized for this year's Republic Day celebration.

Only a total of 1000 individuals will be allowed for attending the programme in case of state-level events on the other hand in the case of district-level the attendance of only 500 people will be permitted.

In relation to the pre-celebration of Republic Day, the government in the SOP mentioned that there will be no functions or gatherings allowed to be conducted.

As per the new SOPs issued, the school students are restricted to take part in any march-past event to be held on Republic Day as it might risk their health and life amid covid scare.

The SOPs further read that paramilitary force, home guards and police officials will not be given permission to take part in the parade.

It is also mentioned that it is double vaccination is mandatory for those who take part in the parade of 73rd Republic Day otherwise they will not be allowed to participate.

The Assam government has strictly issued the SOPs in view of the rising COVID-19 positive cases in the state and in maintaining public safety and if people perform any such activities that are restricted they will have to face consequences.

After 3 days of a continuous spike in positive cases on Thursday 20 January, the state reported a slight decrease in the number of infected cases with a total of 7,920 individuals detected COVID-19 positive. However, the positivity rate in Assam remains 12.92%.
