Assam: Government Officials Caught Red-Handed in Bribery Scandal

GUWAHATI: In a recent development, Vigilance sleuths have successfully apprehended two government officials on bribery charges, each ensnared in separate traps meticulously set by the authorities. The first incident unfolded at the Samaria Revenue Circle situated in Assam's Kamrup district. The implicated individual, identified as Pradip Kalita, held the position of Supervisor Kanungo at the Office of Circle Officer in Samaria Revenue Circle, Kamrup district.

During the operation, Kalita was caught red-handed in his office while accepting a bribe. The bribe was reportedly demanded in exchange for facilitating the correction of a name on a patta, a crucial land revenue document. The complainant, aggrieved by the bureaucratic hurdle, was compelled to offer the illicit payment to expedite the necessary correction.

Simultaneously, the Vigilance team orchestrated a second trap, this time at the office of the District Agricultural Officer in Goalpara. The implicated official in this case was identified as Budheswar Das. He was apprehended in the act of accepting a demanded bribe within his office premises. The bribe, according to reports, was solicited as a reward for expediting the processing and release of bills pertaining to the complainant.

Pradip Kalita and Budheswar Das, now under the scrutiny of the Vigilance sleuths, face serious legal consequences for their involvement in corrupt practices. The authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding these bribery incidents.

This swift and decisive action by the Vigilance team underscores the commitment to rooting out corruption within government ranks. The traps laid and subsequent apprehensions serve as a deterrent to other officials who may be tempted to engage in similar illicit activities.
