Assam Governor and CM Welcomes Vice President in Guwahati

The Vice President also visited the Kamakhya Temple located in Guwahati as a part of his visit to the state.

GUWAHATI: Jagdeep Dhankar, the Vice President of India reached the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport located in Guwahati in the morning of Tuesday. The Vice President has visited the city to take part in the convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Governor Gulab Chand Kataria visited the Guwahati and arrived at the airport early to formally welcome him on his visit.

He visited the Kamakhya Temple located in Guwahati as a part of his visit to the state. He sought the blessings of the Goddess before proceeding towards the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. He will be chairing the 25th convocation ceremony at the educational institute on Tuesday.

Several key members of the legislature and bureaucracy were also present to greet him a the airport.

This is his second visit to the state as Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar arrived in Dibrugarh to attend the 21st Convocation Ceremony of Dibrugarh University about two months back. Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Rameswar Teli, and Assam education minister Ranoj Pegu also grace the occasion.

In his speech, Vice President said "It is great pride that we recall the heroic valour of King Prithu Jalpeshwer of Kamrup who defeated Bakhtiyar Khilji, the destroyer of Nalanda University. We also recall with honour the legendary Ahom warrior Lachit Borphukan who defeated Mughal armies in the famous Battle of Saraighat."
