Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria asks department to strengthen dairy farming

GUWAHATI: With a keen interest to develop the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department as a major contributor to strengthen livestock population, Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria took briefing of the activities of the department in the presence of the departmental minister Atul Bora in the conference hall of Raj Bhavan on Friday. Principal Secretary of the department Manish Thakur gave a detailed presentation of the activities of the department.

The presentation highlighted the livestock population of the State, steps taken towards departmental reforms and strengthening of the service delivery system through infrastructure, logistics, manpower and medicines. He also highlighted the status and achievements of the centrally and state sponsored schemes.

The Governor asked the department to strengthen the network of milk collection centres to empower the milk farmers as well as to enable them to get the maximum value for their milk. He also said that more cooperative societies should be set up and strengthened to strengthen the dairy sector. He also asked the department to put in more efforts to expedite its efforts of reaching out to the farmers. .

The Governor highlighted that PMs dream of doubling the farmers income can be achieved if the farmers get engaged in cattle rearing, poultry and dairy production along with their agricultural practices. The Agriculture Minister expressed happiness for being invited by the Governor for the briefing and he said that he is confident that under the guidance of the Governor and the Chief Minister the department will work better to expedite the growth trajectory of Assam.

The meeting was attended by the Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor S.S. Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary to the Governor Swapna Dutta Deka, Director Dairy Dev and I/C Director AHVD Rahul Javir Suresh, MD ALPCO Anil Dewri, CEO ALDA Monideep Das along with a host of other senior officials, stated a press release.
