UDALGURI: Jagdish Mukhi attended the 152nd Gandhi Jayanti programme observed by the Udalguri district administration as the chief guest. He paid a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the Gandhi Mandap at the Udalguri DC office premise. He was accompanied by BTC Chief Pramod Boro and BTC Deputy Chief Gobinda Chandra Basumatari. P Uday Praveen, DC of Udalguri welcomed the guests. BTC Deputy Chief and Udalguri MLA Gobinda Chandra Basumatari explained Mahatma Gandhi's Non-Violence policy. While speaking on that occasion BTC Chief Pramod Boro stressed the need of following Gandhi's philosophy in day to day life. The ABSU has been observing Gandhi Jayanti as Non-Violence day in BTC since 2009 and campaigned against the illegal arms in the region, he said.

There is no extremist organization in the region now and the thirty-two lakh people are living in peace. Jagdish Mukhi said that Gandhi Jayanti is a special day for the people of the world. The UNO has been observing the day as Non-Violence day since 2007. The Government of India has launched Swachh Bharat Mission-2 on that day. The aim of the mission is to clear the garbage of town and city areas and to provide pure drinking water to every household within a stipulated period. Debeswar Bora, the ADC of Udalguri thanked all the guests and people who participated in the Gandhi Jayanti at Udalguri.
