GUWAHATI: According to Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, the Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya has been doing outstanding work to promote and spread the life and philosophy of the great Vaishnav saint and philosopher from the 15th century.

Attending the institution's fifth convocation on Thursday, Kataria stated that the Srimanta Sankaradeva University is evolving into an effective instrument for promoting social enrichment and the dissemination of Srimanta Sankardeva's teachings.

The institution founded in honor of the great man "is doing a commendable job of broadening the life and philosophy of the great man," he said, adding that, "It is always a privilege to attend the commencement of the university created in the name of the great man."

The governor urged upon the students to work hard and be deserving of their degrees to improve society.

Additionally, he asked them to serve as ambassadors and play a major part in disseminating the life and teachings of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva.

Kataria urged the university administration to take action to give its students the tools they need to handle the state's abundant resources wisely and strategically.

452 students received postgraduate and undergraduate diplomas at the convocation, while the governor delivered degrees to 23 Ph.D. and 10 MPhil scholars.

Taking to Twitter, Guv Kataria said, “I am delighted to have been a part of the 5th convocation of Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya in Guwahati. My heartfelt congratulations go out to all the degree holders for their academic accomplishments. It is a moment of great pride for each graduate to have earned their degree from a university that derives its name from the revered apostle of Assam, Srimanta Sankardev.”

He went on to say, “I hope that these graduates will serve as beacons of change, working tirelessly towards the betterment of society, and contributing to making it an ideal place to live. Let us strive together to create a brighter future for all, drawing inspiration from the wisdom and teachings of the Sarvagunakara Sri Sri Srimanta Sankardev.”

Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Union Minister of State for Education, claimed that by introducing postgraduate studies in yogic science and naturopathy, among other ground-breaking programs, the institution has carved out a unique place in the North East.

According to him, the university should introduce additional Sankardeva courses that are in line with the NEP agenda to synchronize the knowledge and abilities of the students.
