Guwahati: Assam Governor Professor Jagdish Mukhi on Wednesday unfurled the national flag at the Veterinary field, Khanapara as a part of the 73rd Republic Day celebrations.
Along with Mukhi, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present for the Republic day celebrations.
Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Himanta said, ''Proud to be part of the #RepublicDay celebrations at Assam Veterinary College playground, Khanapara, Guwahati, where Hon'ble Governor Prof @jagdishmukhi unfurled the national flag.
On this special day, let's pledge to take our country & state to a new pinnacle of glory''.
According to reports, after hoisting the flag, prof. Mukhi announced various developmental projects planned for the state and the city in particular.
On the other hand, prior to this event, the Assam Chief Minister was also present at Shraddhanjali Kanan in Guwahati's Zoo Road area, where he hoisted the National Flag.
Apart from these, state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Bhabesh Kalita hoisted the flag at the party headquarters.
The national flag was also hoisted at the state secretariat Janta Bhawan in Dispur and the High Court in Uzan Bazar.
India is celebrating its 73rd Republic Day with the annual parade at Delhi's Rajpath showcasing its military prowess and cultural pageantry.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to the fallen soldiers at the newly built National War Memorial (NWM) today morning in New Delhi, prior to participating in the 73rd Republic Day celebrations.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defense Ajay Bhatt, Defense Secretary, Ajay Kumar, and the Chiefs of the Indian Armed Forces, i.e, Army, Air Force, and Navy, were also present on this occasion.
The celebrations this year are special as Republic Day falls in the 75th year of Independence, being celebrated as 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' across the country.
