GUWAHATI: In a major decision by the Assam government, 13 new model schools also called Adarsh Vidyalayas will be set up in the state.
On Saturday 2nd April, the Health and Family Welfare Minister of Assam, Keshav Mahanta informed about the approval of 13 new model schools by the state government.
Moreover, the Assam government also took the decision of setting up a total of 97 model schools in the tea garden areas.
The cabinet minister announced the news while addressing the media persons after attending the cabinet session on Saturday.
Apart from the decision on the development of the educational sector, many other major decisions have been taken at the cabinet meeting organized today.
One of the other important decisions by the government includes borrowing Rupees 170.50 crore from NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) to construct roads and at least 3 bridges in the rural areas.
The cabinet minister Keshab Mahanta also informed that if there are more than 1 and a half acres of land in any municipal location then it would be considered an EWS (economically weaker section).
In addition, the cabinet also decides to ease up the process of issuing the caste certificates to the people of the state by doing away with the citizenship proof or NRC list that was earlier needed.
According to Mahanta, from now onwards only parents' certificates will be required to get a caste certificate and no citizenship proof or NRC list is needed to produce by the applicant.
In addition, the students of classes 9 and 10 will be issued with caste certificates as the administration will reach out to their respective schools for the purpose of issuing caste certificates.
The families who do not possess a caste certificate can get them within the period of 45 days informed the minister.
Notably, the people from the Sarania Kachari community will also get a caste certificate from now onwards.
