Guwahati: The trade licence of a Maruti Suzuki India dealer was cancelled in Guwahati, Assam. The Assam Transport Department cancelled one of its Maruti Suzuki dealer's license as it was allegedly selling the old vehicle as new. The dealer of the country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki painted the old cars and sold it to the customers as new cars. An official of the Transport Department, Assam informed about the same on Tuesday. Gautam Das, the District Transport Officer (DTO) of Kamrup Metropolitan said that a person filed a complaint at his office as well as at the Commissionerate of Transport against the car dealer for allegedly cheating the customers.
Following the complaint, the Commissioner Adil Khan instructed a team of the Assam Transport Department, which consisted of vehicle inspectors and other officials, to conduct a sudden raid in the Khanapara showroom of Poddar Car World in Guwahati. As per the instructions, the team raided the showroom and found a lot of anomalies.
The vehicle inspectors of the Transport Department also checked the vehicle, which was sold after repainting. They found the vehicle to be an old one. Das further said that when the Poddar Car World officials were questioned about selling the old car, they accepted it and said that it was sold mistakenly. However, the Transport Department was not convinced by the logic of the Poddar Car Dealer officials, and hence, cancelled their trade licence and trade certificate with immediate effect.
A technical inquiry has been initiated by the Transport Department, and the showroom has been banned from selling any vehicle till the investigation is fully complete. An email was sent to the spokesperson of Maruti Suzuki India regarding the case, however, it is not yet answered. Another showroom of Maruti Suzuki India was sealed in Pathsala, Barpeta in 2015-16 for selling vehicles without permission, said Das.
