Guwahati: In the wake of the upcoming Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) elections, the Assam government has announced a public holiday on June 8 within the jurisdiction of Karbi Anglong and regions of Koklabari in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).
In this regard, the state government issued a notification on Tuesday, which read, ''The Governor of Assam is pleased to declare 8* June 2022 (day of Foil) as Public Holiday under Section 25 of N.1. Act. 1001 (XXTV of 1601) read with the Government of India, Ministry of Pome Affairs Notification No.20/25/Pub-I dated @" June 1057 within the jurisdiction of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and areas Calling under No.22 Koklabari BTC Constituency under Bodoland Territorial Council (OTC) on account of Karbi Angleng Autonomous Council Election, 2022 and Bye Election of No.22 Kaklabari (ST) BTC Constituency under BTC notified by Assam State Election Commission vide No.SEC.42/20223 and No. SEC.12/2021/77 dated 12/052022.''
''All she Govt/Non-Govt. Offices, Educational Institutions, and Business Establishments including Banks, Tea Garden, and Industries, etc. falling within the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and No.22 Koklabari (ST) TC Construency under Bodoland Territorial Council will remain closed on that day,'' it added.
The elections will be held in 26 council constituencies of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts. And the results for the said elections are scheduled to be announced on June 12.
Out of 7,03,298 registered voters, 3,55,503 are males and 3,47,790 are females, 5 voters from the third gender will be turning out for voting in the upcoming election as well.
