GUWAHATI: Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Deputy Inspector General of Police, has been appointed by the Assam government to serve as an extra Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Special Task Force (STF). The state government has never before created the position of Deputy Inspector General of Police (STF).
Mahanta will carry the additional charge of Deputy Inspector General of Police (STF), in addition to his current responsibilities, as of the date of taking over the charge, according to a government notification. Mahanta was appointed as the Deputy Inspector General of Police earlier this month after being relieved of his duties as the Joint Commissioner of Police for Guwahati (Admn). Mahanta previously held the position of the state's DIG of Police (Armed Police).
Mahanta's appointment comes with a fresh notification issued by the Assam Government’s Home department stating, “Shri Partha Sarathi Mahanta, IPS (SPS-2007), Joint Commissioner of Police, Police Commissionerate, Guwahati, who was substantially posted as Deputy Inspector General of Police (Armed Police), Assam for the purpose of drawal of pay and allowances only, is transferred and posted as Deputy Inspector General of Police (Admn.), Assam against existing vacancy with effect from the date of taking over charge and until further orders.”
With his new position, he will have additional administrative responsibilities in addition to managing the Special Task Force.
The movies "Bohag Bohag Mon" and "Lachit the Fighter" by Assam Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta will be shown at the Northeast Film Festival in 2023. Partha Sarathi Mahantaa is the director of both movies, and the film festival will take place in Mumbai on March 25 and 26.
Mahanta recently earned the best director prize for his animated documentary biography Lachit, The Warrior, and his film Hargila took first place in the best documentary film category at the Jaipur International Film Festival.
