Assam: Govt Officer Plays Assam Anthem In A Twisted Manner, Gets Suspended

GUWAHATI: The government suspended a member of the directorate of cultural affairs for playing the Assamese national anthem, "O Mur Apunar Dekh," distortedly on Monday during a Sonowal Kachari community event in Dibrugarh.

The Khring Khring Baithaw Puja was held at Maankota, and Bhanita Hira Das, the cultural development officer of the cultural centre in Dibrugarh, was not present. She was held accountable for playing the Jatiya Sangeet incorrectly and was suspended with immediate effect.

At the festival location on Monday, the Jatiya Sangeet was played in a twisted manner in front of state minister for cultural affairs Bimal Borah, union minister of state for petroleum and natural gas Rameswar Teli, and others. An important Bodo-Kachary religious celebration is Bathow Puja, which takes place in Assam, India.

At this event, people worship a deity known by several names, including Bathow Bwrai, Khuria Bwrai, Sri Brai, and Gila Damra. This event has three distinct forms: Garja, Kherai, and Marai. Kherai is the most important of these celebrations.

Two Assam Civil Service (ACS) officers were previously suspended by the Assam government on February 2 due to allegations of widespread irregularities in hiring practises at the company where they previously worked, Assam Fisheries Development Corporation Limited (AFDCL).

The alleged violations happened when Anuradha Adhikari and Naren Chandra Basumatary, two officers, were serving as managing directors for the AFDCL.

Anuradha Adhikari, ACS, was accused of large-scale irregularities in the regularisation of employees and the appointment of contractual employees in Assam Fishery Development Corporation Limited (AFDCL) during her tenure as the company's managing director, according to a notification released by the personnel department of the Assam government.

The Government did form a high-power committee to inquire into the alleged anomalies on March 10, 2022. The Government suspended the two officers based on the inquiry report.

The Government initiated DPs (departmental proceedings) against the two suspended ACS officers under the provisions of the Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964.
