The Chief Minister has urged the people and also the DCs of respective districts to identify such orphans so that the state govt can add them to this beneficiary scheme.

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today handed over cheques to the children who lost both their parents to COVID-19.

Notably, as per earlier commitment, the state government under the Mukhyamantri Sishu Sewa Achoni scheme is providing a monthly financial aid of Rs 3,500 to the children who have lost both their parents in this pandemic due to COVID-19.

Under the scheme, there are two-component- orphans without extended families and orphans with extended families.

Meanwhile, as of now, the financial assistance sought is from the orphans all come from extended families.

It is to be mentioned here that orphans without extended families will be provided with free education from residential schools in the state.

On the other hand, 11 children have been provided a fixed deposit policy of Rs 7 lakh, 81 thousand, and two hundred.

"Based on these fixed deposit terms and conditions with the State Bank of India (SBI), they will get Rs 3,500 monthly till they attain the age of 24," the chief minister said.

"On the expiry of the term of the fixed deposit, the beneficiary will get Rs. 7,81000," added the CM.

"Since all the applicants are with their extended family, so there is no question of sending these children to residential schools," added Dr. Sarma.

The state government is also identifying more such cases. The government has also provided a laptop and also handed over a cheque of Rs. 3500 to all such orphans.
