GUWAHATI: On June 14, the Assam Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Northern Frontier Railway for the transfer of Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) land in Paltanbazar, Guwahati, to the Railway Authority for the building of a second entrance to the Guwahati Railway Station.

The main points of the MoU are:

Paltan Bazar will get a second entrance to the Guwahati Railway Station.

NFR would take over ASTC's Paltan Bazar campus in exchange for 20 bighas of railway land in Jalukbari and Rs. 5.93 crore.

This will allow for the construction of a world-class railway station in Guwahati, complete with all passenger amenities.

Taking on twitter, The Chief Minister office informed that, “To ensure hassle-free rail and river travel, Govt of Assam, under the leadership of HCM Dr @himantabiswa

, has signed Memorandum of Agreements with @RailNf & @NRL_MoPNG

to develop a superlative Railway terminal, modernize bus services & provide seamless fuel to IWT ferries.”

On the other hand, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that, “We are building a state-of-the-art bus station & a world-class railway station worth ₹700 cr in Guwahati.

To facilitate this, we signed an MoU to exchange land between Railways & Assam Govt. The Double Engine Govt continues its high speed journey!”

He also said that Guwahati Railway Station receives 1 million passengers per year, with a growth rate of 15-20%.

CM Sarma also met with authorities to discuss the status of the Maligaon and Zoo Road flyovers. He directed them to finish the Maligaon and Zoo Road flyovers by July 31 and August 31, respectively. I also requested that they carefully follow safety precautions.
