Assam Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the state government will provide Rs. 2.5 lakh each to 8 thousand 'Namghars' in the state

Addressing a press conference, Sarma informed that the financial assistance will be provided under the 'Asom Darshan' scheme by October this year.

Notably, Deputy Commissioners will select 55 Namghars per LAC within a month.

The state minister alos noted that the definition of Namghar doesn't include any other place of worship including Temple, Mosque and Church.

As part of the Budget announcements, State finance minister Sarma asserted "In the Budget, we had announced to give Rs 10 lakh each to 377 religious places like temples, masjids and churches. For this, we sanctioned Rs 37.7 crore today,"

He also stated that the Namghars located in the SC/ST belts will be given priority in the selection process as the inhabitants of those areas have dearth of funds to develop the Namghars on their own.

He added priority will also be given to those Namghars which are widely and frequently visited by pilgrims.

Stating that all schemes will be completed by November 30, Sarma also added two special programmes and several infrastructure related projects will be announced next week.
