Guwahati: Assam Health & Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta on Friday asserted that the vaccination process will be completed within one week i.e. from January 3 to 9.

He informed this while addressing a press conference today with all DCs, ADCs (Health & Education).

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, he confirmed the same and tweeted, ''Discussed in detail with all DCs, ADCs (Health & Education), school inspectors, Joint Director DHS, in a VC at 9:30 am today, regarding the vaccine campaign in the educational institutions for the students and teenagers of 15 to 18 years of age from January 3''.

He also said the DCs to gather information from school inspectors from their respective districts about the total number of eligible students to be administered the 1st dose of vaccine against COVID19 beforehand and to make necessary arrangements for the smooth running of the campaign.

''Within one week, the vaccination process for the students between the age group of 15 to 18 will be completed within one week from January 3 to January 9, 2022, in each School of all the districts of the state,'' he added.

He further informed that those who are not studying in any educational institution between the given ages can take the vaccine from their respective vaccination centre.

''The state government has an aim to vaccinate 10 lakhs students with covaxin,'' he added.

Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Thursday too informed that the vaccination will be started from 3rd January in the state and 15 schools will be targeted every day in every district so it can be completed soon.

He also asserted that the parents will also have to take the second dose of the vaccine during the period.

He further directed the officials concerned to arrange separate rooms for both boys and girls for their vaccination.

He further said that those students who don't have mobile phones can register their parents' mobile numbers at the vaccination centre.
