GUWAHATI: The Assam government said on Wednesday that it would add 819 new teaching positions for the 422 tea garden schools run by those estates' administrations.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu declared at a news conference following a Cabinet meeting that the government will provincialize the schools run by the tea garden administration.
When a school is provincialized, all of its debts are transferred to the government. Existing teachers will continue to work under the same rules; their services won't be provincialized.
"We will develop more teaching positions and appoint them as government instructors," the official stated.
According to Pegu, the Assam government will invest Rs 33 crore on this initiative to provide youngsters from tea garden communities with high-quality education.
According to Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, the Cabinet also decided to speed up the procedure for land settlement in municipal areas for recipients of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U).
According to him, the government also agreed to increase the loan amount for 190 different projects from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development's (NABARDRural) Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) to Rs 441.86 crore.
According to Baruah, the Cabinet also approved Rs 1,000 crore in budget proposals to encourage business owners with little resources.
The government will spend Rs 5,000 crore over the following three years to "convert" over 2 lakh jobless youth from BPL and low-income households into job creators, according to the Assam Budget for 2023–24.
In the following fiscal year, Rs 1,000 crore was allotted for this purpose.
In response to the state's protracted financial problems, the Assam government has allocated roughly Rs 550 crore for the state's tea business.
Finance Minister Ajanta Neog stated that the Assam Tea Industry Special Incentives Plan will also be improved to provide relief to tea workers when presenting the state budget.
